Learnings from my masters
Those of you that have been with me a while now know that I trained in the United States for a number of years. I actively sought out the very best teachers that I could find, learning as much as I could from them. In this post I’d like to share some of their words and thoughts that have been particularly influential in my continuing journey of yoga practice and teaching.
Jason Crandell is one of the most famous yogis in the States. So many guys at his level have been become aloof, but he stays grounded. He says, ‘My goal for you is to leave class feeling like the work we’ve done together is relevant and is making a measurable difference in your life. It doesn’t matter if your only aim is to one day touch your toes or if it’s to help you perfect the most advanced poses. We are all in this together and we can all use the tools yoga has to offer to help us stress less, to communicate more effectively, to embrace who we are and enjoy this life.’ Cool huh..?
Sarah Powers…great name! She’s a friend of mine and a very strong lady. She’s someone that practices yoga in much the same way that I do, enlivening the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style is a blend of both a Yin sequence of floor poses – enhancing the meridian and organ systems – and an alignment-based slow flow or Yang practice influenced by Viniyoga, lyengar teachings and QI gong. Quite a mouthful that last sentence..!
Sarah says, ‘Enlivening the physical and pranic bodies, as well as learning to meet our psychological reactivity, is paramount in preparing us deepen and nourish insights into our essential nature and state of awareness.’ So very true those words.
Jason and Sarah are just two of my mentors. I’ll be talking about Rodney Yee and others in future posts. Stay tuned.
Love and light
